  Swedish novel among Germany’s bestsellers

“The hundred-year-old man who climbed out the window and disappeared”, debut novel by Swedish author Jonas Jonasson, has sold over a million copies in Germany.
IBNA: Carl's Books Publications in Munich, the book’s publisher announced that a year has passed since the book’s publication in Germany and it is still among the bestsellers. 

“The hundred-year-old man who climbed out the window and disappeared” (Swedish: Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann) is a 2009 novel and the debut novel by Swedish author Jonas Jonasson. 

Since the last 49 weeks the book is among the list of Spiegel’s bestsellers and from the beginning of 2012 it is almost on top of the list. 

The book is about Allan Karlsson who is about to celebrate his hundredth birthday and a birthday party is planned at his retirement home. Allan is alert despite his age, but not so interested in the party. Instead he steps out the window and disappears. He gets hold of a bag of stolen money and becomes chased by both drug dealers and the police. 

The book became a bestseller in Sweden in 2010, and has sold three million copies worldwide as of July 2012. 

Jonas Jonasson was born in Sweden in 1961. He has a professional background as a journalist and media consulter.
