"Revolution" picture book presents Iranian consciousness
In the unveiling ceremony of "Revolution" picture book, Akbar Nazemi said: photojournalists are the consciousness of people and register the historical moments. After 30 years I have chosen 101 photos from among 4 thousand I had taken during the revolution to publish in a book. IBNA: The unveiling ceremony of the photo book "Revolution" by Akbar Nazemi was held yesterday (January 31) in the photographers house of Howzeh Honari.
In this ceremony Akbar Nazemi said: When I was taking photographs in the course of the revolution I was hit by Shah's police and intelligence service.
He said: Photojournalism presents the truth without explanation and giving directions. The news and the event are just there in front of people.
About his criteria for selecting these pictures he said: After 30 years I scanned 101 chosen from 4 thousand. There was a curfew and people could not go to the streets but the revolution was proceeding on the roofs and people went from one place to another via the roofs of the buildings. We also took some of the photos from the roofs and went to one neighborhood to another by jumping from a roof to another.
He also referred to launching a website in Canada www.iranrevolution.com, and said: In this website the visitors can see pictures related to Iranian revolution and see a short explanation of them.
The next speaker was Rasoul Olyazadeh, the manager of photographers house in Howzeh Honari. He said: Nazemi's first photo exhibition was held four years ago. His work was very well received and we decided t publish a collection of the works for The Islamic revolution's 30th anniversary.
In the unveiling ceremony of "Revolution" a documentary by Nazemi "Meeting", which is an interview with Mohsen Motlaq Imam Khomeini's guard, was shown.
So far Nazemi's photos have received different awards including Chicago festival award, Canada film Festival award, etc. He has had exhibitions in Iran, Germany, Canada and the United States.
The photos in "Revolution" are from people marching in the streets before the revolution, Imam Khomeini's return to Iran from Paris, People waiting in the lobby of the airport, Imam Khomeini's speech in Behesht Zahra, his presence in Refah School, the corpses of the revolution's martyrs, graffiti and murals.
