Prominent figures of Iran’s puppet theatre to be honored
During the closing ceremony of Iran’s Puppet Theatre Festival, leading figures including Hengameh Mofid, Iraj Mohammadi, Hassan Lueian, Reza Jafari and late Javad Zolfaghari will be praised. IBNA: According to the public relations department of the 14th edition of Tehran International Puppet Theater Festival (Mobarak), the five distinguished figures will be honored for their creative activities and its continuity in puppet theatre, playwriting, instructing puppet theatre, preserving and disseminating the art of Kheimeh-shab-bazi (the Persian traditional puppetry which is performed in a small chamber) as an ancient Iranian art as well as producing puppet theatre books.
Hengameh Mofid is a veteran of children and puppet theatre. Iraj Mohammadi is a puppet maker and Hassan Lueian is a vanguard of Isfanahn’s Kheimeh-shab-bazi. Reza Jafari is a veteran of Naeen puppet art and late Javad Zolfaghari was an author and translator. Some of Zolfaghari’s compilations include “The magnificent world of Alfred Jarry” and “Art of puppetry”.
The annual festival will kick off on July 1 in different theater halls. Tehran’s City Theater grounds, Golestan Palace and Iran’s House of Artists will host this year’s street performances. Organized by the Iran office of UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette - International Puppetry Association), the festival will also hold workshops on various puppetry subjects.
Puppeteers from eight European and Asian countries including Italy, Germany, Belarus, Turkey, India, Georgia, Afghanistan and South Korea will participate in the 14th edition of Tehran International Puppet Theater Festival (Mobarak).
