17 Aug 2011 15:45
In a meeting with a number of Afghan and Tajik artists and poets, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei described the current poetry movement as progressive and said it heralds the peak of Persian poetry.
IBNA: According to the information center of the office for preservation and publication of Ayatollah Khamenei's works, the meeting was held on Monday, August 15, 2011 in the evening before the birth anniversary of Imam Hassan Mojtaba at Imam Khomeini's Husseinyeh.

In the meeting, the leader of the Islamic Revolution outlined the main features of the present era and the Islamic awakening in the region and said "the recent evens are rooted from Iranians' massive movement and, realizing the conditions, poets have deepened their religious and Islamic wisdom as a means of making the Iranian nation a sample [for other nations], besides sticking to their Islamic Revolution identity and rhetoric."

Comparing today's poetry with the Indian style that was practiced 200 years ago by Iranian poets, the leader asserted that the number and quantity of poets as well as innovation in the poetic contents are the two commonalities of the two styles.

He highlighted the unprecedented number of veteran and emerging poets in the country and added "the Islamic Revolution brought arts and knowledge to the heart of the society, and provided that the current approach resists some 30 more years, the number of poets will surpass that in all times."

"No other era can be found in history with such a large number of novel concepts in poetry," he further added describing the present poetry condition of the country.

He went on to say that for unparalleled peaks to show up, time and effort are needed.

He further commented on the wisdom of past Iranian poets like Ferdowsi, Sa'adi, Hafiz and Jaami and posited that their Divans are filled with profound and complex wisdom. "Getting close with the holy Quran, Nahjolbalagheh and the Sahifeh Sadjadyeh is how religious wisdom is attained. By this, hearts are enlightened and are scraped off of doubts and uncertainties."

"To gain religious wisdom one must cling to rational and technical methods and shun absurd innovations," added the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution highlighting Ramadan and its entailing opportunities for gaining religious clarity.

Prior to the leader's speech, some poets recited their compositions on the Islamic vigilance.

The meeting summed up with mass praying and breaking fast of the guests with the leader.
