Descartes in social context for Iranians

9 Oct 2011 16:19

Ahmad Saboori is converting a philosophical volume about Descartes that has makes a survey of the French philosopher in his contemporary social context.

IBNA: According to the translator, the volume written by a prominent Cambridge University professor takes an approach to the study of Descartes that is little known in Iran.

He continued: "The book studies Descartes' thought within his contemporary period, that is, his philosophy is studied in the social context."

"This approach would lead to a better understanding of a philosopher and helps avoid generalized application of the philosophers' ideas for the present time," said Saboori.

He continued: "No thought emerges all of a sudden and out of context. Therefore, in order to make a better use of a thought, one should fully understand the conditions underlying it."

According to Saboori, few works are written in Iran with this approach.

Saboori has not negotiated with any publisher for 'Descartes'.
