18 Apr 2012 16:13
A session was held on "The challenges of Iran's theatre" in the Expediency Discernment Council's Center for Strategic Research. It was held with the attendance of Iraj Rad, Sadegh Mousavi and Hamed Iran-shahi.
IBNA: The session of "The challenges of Iran's theatre" was held on Tuesday, April 17, in the Expediency Discernment Council's Center for Strategic Research. As the meeting kicked off Iran-shahi said:" Expediency Discernment Council should determine methods in different fields in line with the Islamic Republic of Iran's goals."

He added:" According to the Center for Strategic Research, appropriate policymaking is achieved through the theories of different fields. Thus we entered the field of art last year and held several sessions on "The challenges of cinema" and "Underground music" and their results were released as books and research works."

Furthermore Iraj Rad said:" Iran's today's theatre encounters many problems including the lack of theatre halls and issues related with the art's budget. The other problems are about conceptual issues, means the problems related to the drama and problems which are occurred for the plays."

He added:" Interestingly the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution had issued ratifications and programs, as laws, for the problems. However the law hadn’t been executed which is surprising. The law contained ratifications for supporting jobs, public instructions and theatre syllabus for schools as well as supervising the performances.

He moreover lamented that an artist's work hasn’t been defined as a job; according job security is totally meaningless as well.

The veteran theatre performer added:" Since the law wasn’t executed many other problems occurred as well including the researches and investigations which failed to be completed. Moreover a budget isn’t allocated for theatre research thus we should introduce our traditional performances through the books of western researchers."

He finally added: "Our playwrights' works are written in Persian but their texts aren’t in line with our culture. We should pay heed to artists, if an artist doesn’t have a job security, he couldn’t work on Iranian culture.

In other news, Sadegh Mousavi said:" The capacities of dramatic arts are more than the other arts. Through a fundamental research we should learn that why the laws of theatre haven’t been executive."

He added:" The City Theatre, as Middle East's theatre hub, holds only 900 seats. I think that we should develop theatre education in Iran and increase the related educational books as well."
