Yahya Kamilipour: Media should be taught at Iranian schools
Yahya Kamalipour, professor of mass and international communications, visited the 25th Tehran International Book Fair. No matter where you live in the world, your life in influenced by the media, he asserted. IBNA: Head of the Department of Communication and Creative Arts, and Director of the Center for Global Studies, Purdue University Calumet, Indiana, USA entered Iran to visit the 25th Tehran International Book Fair in its closing days, unveil his biography, Passenger of the Global Village, and see his family, he said in an interview with IBNA.
The book is penned by Negin Husseini and will be unveiled in a ceremony to be mounted parallel with the World Day of Communications and National Day of Public Relations (May 16, 2012)
“TIBF is an admirable cultural even held in Iran every year and improves book reading culture in the country,” said Kamalipour about his first impression of the book fair.
He asserted that people’s reception of the fair shows their understating of the role books can and does play as the greatest, most long-lasting cultural treasure for any country.
He went on to say that Passenger of the Global Village is his biography which Negin Husseini provided after over 9 months of interview with him.
He posited that the book will be beneficial for young readers for communication of his experiences with them under different circumstances of life.
“My main reason for preparing such a book is making a small contribution to conveying the fact to the youngsters that they can reach whatever they want by hope and hard work,” he further added.
Elsewhere in his interview, Prof. Kamalipour asserted that a lot has been done in Iran in the last decade in the field of communications in universities and many books have been published.
He also commented on the quality of the published works and said that their main problem is being dependant on foreign works. “The theories are not based on an Iranian model, however, many advances have taken place recently to address this defect.”
Attempts should be made to introduce different features of media to the Iranian people, he added. “Public lessons on communications and media should be added to school and university curricula and people should be informed about the correct use of media in Iran.”
No matter where we live, we are constantly affected by the media, he added. “We must gain information about the effect on media and universities should pay more heed to the field now that we are living in the communication era.”
