Husseini: Adaptive ethics needed to promote media ethics
In the 4th Seminar held in assessment of Iran’s press, the minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad Husseini, insisted that cultural works should not be misleading. IBNA: “We ought to come up with a book on adaptive ethics by experts of the subject to show everyone how to act when entering the press industry,” said Husseini addressing the audience at the seminar. “The holiness of the press should be preserved by the literati.”
The seminar opened this morning (May 22, 2012) under the title of Assessing Iran’s Press Issues: Challenges and Outlooks.
“Apparently, all the seminar’s features are liked with number 4: the 4th seminar in assessment of Iran’s press issues sponsored by 4 top universalities of the country, pursuing 4 main mottos in the 4 fields of written, online, audio and visual media,” asserted Husseini in his keynote speech. “It should also be noted that the press is the 4th chief pillar in democracy.”
“No one can deny the role media play in the communication era,” he added. “The press is the perfect reflection of the society’s realities and can identify social disorders and offer remedies to them. The press can also revive the spirit of hope and happiness in the society.”
The minister of culture and Islamic guidance went on to say that the press can be the cause of unanimity, empathy and unity among the people in the society. “Culture is the major backbone of human’s life. Most of the developments are rooted in cultural change and the press can play a significant role in this regard.”
“The press should act as a wise watchdog monitoring the performance of officials and identifying their dysfunction,” he added.
He further elaborated on the seminar’s mottos stating, “The first motto of the seminar is Qualitative Development of the Press. It is one of the honors of the press department of the culture ministry during the 10th administration is issuing of 1,300 journal permits.”
“We have eased the red tape for issuing journal permissions in the ministry to provide a more competitive context for individuals to work in,” he added.
He further posited that one should no more worry about the number of released items because over 4,000 journals are being published in Iran right now.
