Tehran International Book Fair's House of Literati held a session on Friday, May 11, entitled "Translation's role in Islamic countries' scientific progress". The session emphasized on the necessity of translation in conveying data as well as establishing a related field institute in Iran.

IBNA: "Translation's role in Islamic countries' scientific progress" was attended by SAMT organization's deputy Seyyed Taha Merghati, managing director of Majd publications Seyyed Abbas Husseini nik and researcher Abulfazl Ahmad zadeh.

Firstly Ahmad zadeh talked about the significant impacts of translation in the world of Islam saying translation was essential during the past times as well as the modern days however its standards should be observed as well.

Talking about the matter, Merghati said:" Translation usually develops in countries in which communication is needed. If a nation holds distinguished thoughts, other countries will naturally use translation for gaining its data."

SAMT organization's deputy said that translation exists in Iran since the Achaemenid dynasty. Texts have been rendered from Pahlavi into other languages and vice versa. The matter of written translation exists since some three years ago.

He added:" Translation is essential among nations which have findings. However, translation is a bilateral relation and it should happen only from other languages."

In other news, Husseini nik said:" Translation exists in all human civilizations and societies and Islamic societies also consider translation while they have a vital role in translation as well. European and Islamic countries interact through translation."

Talking about translation in Iran he added:" Currently the matter needs to be evaluated in Iran. The Muslims entered the field of translation in order to obtain science and have penned many related articles as well."

Iran holds two main features; it is Islamic and Iranian. Islam is a missionary religion and interested in attracting others. Accordingly since the advent of Islam works have been translated mostly from Greek to Arabic, he added.

During the Abbassid-era, The House of Wisdom was established. It was a key institution in the Translation Movement and considered to have been a major intellectual centre.

He went on to say that some translators are called betrayers since they fail to convey the author's concepts.

Managing director of Majd publications added:" A translation institute should be established in Iran."

Translation is usually developed in countries which are eager to communicate with other nations. Translation makes a society progress scientifically, he finally said.
