‘Causation in the Law’ an essay by Tony Honoré, emeritus professor of Oxford University is converted into Persian by Khosrow Neshan. IBNA: Tony Honoré is a British lawyer and jurist, known for his work on ownership, causation and Roman law.
Honoré was born in London but was brought up in South Africa. After the Second World War he continued his studies at New College, Oxford, and he has lived and taught in Oxford for the last fifty-five years. Now retired from his Chair, he teaches seminars in Jurisprudence for the BCL jointly with John Gardner.
Honoré was a close associate of H. L. A. Hart. They jointly wrote Causation in the Law (Oxford, 1st ed. 1959, 2nd 1985) in 1953-8 and Honoré had some influence on Hart's The Concept of Law (Oxford, 1st ed. 1961, 2nd 1994). A number of his philosophical papers are collected in Making Law Bind (Oxford, 1987) and Responsibility and Fault (Oxford, 1999) and his contributions to legal philosophy, which range widely, include sixteen books and more than a hundred articles published over the last six decades.
Honoré made a contribution to the setting up of the new Constitutional Court of South America in 1995, his standing has been recognized by the award of honorary degrees from the Universities of South Africa, Stellenbosch and Cape Town.
Khosrow Neshan, academic member of Shahid Chamran University and translator of ‘Causation in Law’ regarded the work as a brief introduction to the difficult juridical science in which the author has tried to explain the basics of law in a simple language and avoiding complicated technical terms of this field of science.
“Honoré has been successful in explaining key concepts of law such as ownership, contract, crime, and civil responsibility as well as the significance of trial conventions and interpretations of law. He also expounds the relationship between government, history and justice,” he added. Neshan added that the present book is already converted to Arabic and Ukrainian and under translation into Chinese. Although it is mainly concerned with the basics of western law, it could be useful for Iranians.
He added that the juridical content of each society is different than others, yet each society should be able to devise official regulations in order to reach perfection and improvement, such regulations require administrative support but their formation, interpretation and application of the law is subject to ration and discussions in accordance with traditions and justice; this is undertaken by jurists.
The book will be released by Shahid Chamran University Press.
