NLAI spends millions to buy foreign books

Head of the National Library and Archives of the Islamic Republic of Iran said that the organization has purchased 300m tomans (nearly $180,000) from the international section of the 25th Tehran International Book Fair.

IBNA: According to Eshagh Salahi, the books are purchased from foreign exhibitors of the book fair so far as Iranian publishers are obliged to send two copies of their books to the library and there is no need for buying new volumes from the fair.

As he said, the organization has so far purchased as much as 300m tomans (nearly $180,000) from the book fair and the amount may increase depending on the size of new purchases.

He went on to say that the National Library and Archives Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken part in the book fair exhibiting 160 book titles and quarterlies which include many first prints.

“For the first time this year, we have displayed five volumes of the collection of Iranian manuscript index in the book fair, “he asserted.

The 25th Tehran International Book Fair is being held at Tehran's Grand Imam Khomeini Prayer Ground and will run through May 12, 2012.
