Yarrow's 'Indian Theatre' premieres in Iran

10 Nov 2011 12:40
Ralph Yarrow's research book on "Indian Theatre: theatre of origin, theatre of freedom" is converted into Persian by Nariman Afshari and published by MATN, publishing house of Iran's Academy of Arts.
IBNA: According to Afshari, the author in this book is trying to simultaneously reach two significant goals: first is the survey of how Indian theater encompasses all aspects of a theater, and secondly how it keeps on its life despite all its anomalous features.

He continued: "The author in this volume introduces various aspects of Indian theater such as history, theoretical dimensions, texts and forms of performance."

Afshari asserted that "Indian Theatre" is the first analytical work ever written on this subject that deals with the origins and performance methods as well as cultural politics of this country.

The book is divided into six main chapters: 'Chapter One: Introduction', 'Chapter Two: Text', 'Chapter Three Performance', 'Chapter Four: Theory', 'Chapter Five: Indian Theatre in the contemporary world: cultural politics in India', and 'Chapter Six: Indian Theatre in the contemporary world: East-West traffic'. The book also contains a bibliography and pictures.

Ralph Yarrow's "Indian Theatre: theatre of origin, theatre of freedom" is converted into Persian by Nariman Afshari and published by MATN, publishing house of Iran's Academy of Arts, in 1500 copies.
