Federico Garcia Lorca, O.Henry, Richard Scarry, Christy Brown, Margaret Drabble, Ken Follett, Margo Lanagan and Rick Riordan are the acclaimed authors who were born or died on a day like today.
Federico Garcia Lorca
Federico Garcia Lorca, the famous Spanish poet, dramatist and theatre director was born a day like this on the year 1898 and passed away on 1936 at the age of 38. He was shot to death by anti-communist forces during the Spanish Civil War. "Impressions and Landscapes" which was publish in 1918 was his first poetry collection. His "Book of Peoms"(1921) and the famous "Gypsy Ballads" are among his most remembered works.

O.Henry
William Sydney Porter, known by his pen name "O. Henry" was born on September 11th 1862 and passed away on a day like this on the year 1910. He was an American writer. His short stories are known for their wit, wordplay, warm characterization and clever twist endings. Most of O. Henry's stories are set in his own time, the early 20th century. Many take place in New York City and deal for the most part with ordinary people. Among his most famous stories are: "The Gift of the Magi", "The Ransom of Red Chief", The Cop and the Anthem", "A Retrieved Reformation" and "The Duplicity of Hargraves". In his honor the "O. Henry Award" is given to outstanding short stories every year.

Richard Scarry
Richard McClure Scarry, born on a day like this on 1919, was a popular American Children's autor and illustrator who published over 300 books with total sales of over 100 million units worldwide. Scarry's most famous series of books was about "Busytown". While his books are largely populated by coomon animal species, he proved to be quite adept at giving human characteristics to a seemingly endless number of creatures. Many of his "Best Ever" series of books were also converted into popular animated videos. He passed away on 1994 at the age of 74.

Christy Brown
Christy Brown, born on a day like this on the year 1932 was an Irish author, painter and poet. He had cerebral palsy and was only able to write or type with the toes of one foot. He is most famous for his autobiography "My Left Foot", which was later made into a movie of the same name . the film won the Academy Awards. Also Brown's self-proclaimed masterpiece, "Down all the Days", was an ambitious project drawn largely from a playful expansion of "My Left Foot", it also became an international bestseller and published translations exist in fourteen languages. "Down All the Days" was followed by a series of other novels, including "A Shadow on Summer", "Wild Grow the Lilies" and "A Promising Career". He passed away on 1981 at the age of 49.

Margaret Drabble
Dame Margaret Drabble, Lady Holroyd, born on a day like this on 1939 is an English novelist, biographer and critic. Drabble has published seventeen novels to date. Her first novel, "A Summer Bird Cage", was published in 1963. She has won many awards including the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize in 1966 and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1967. Her critical works include studies of William Wordsworth and Thomas Hardy. In 2011, "A Day in the Life of a Smiling Woman", a collection of her short stories was published. She has been famously engaged in a feud with her novelist sister A.S. Byatt over the alleged appropriation of a family tea-set in one of her novels. The pair seldom see each other and don't read each other's books.

Ken Follett
Ken Follett, born on June 5th 1949 is a Welsh author of thrillers and historical novels. He has sold more than 100 million copies of his works. Four of his books have reached the number 1 ranking on the New York Times best-seller list. Those books are: "The Key to Rebecca", "Lie Down with Lions" , "Triple" and "World Without End". "The Man from St. Petersburg", "A Place Called Freedom" and "Pillars of the Earth" are among his other works.

Margo Lanagan
Margo Lanagan, born on a day like this on 1960 in Waratah, New South Wales in an Australian writer of short stories and young adult fiction. Many of her books were only published in Australia. Recently, several of her books have attracted worldwide attention. Her short story collection "Black Juice" won two World Fantasy Awards and a 2006 Printz Honor Award. It include the much-anthologized short story "Singing My Sister Down", which was nominated for both the Hugo and the Nebula Awards for best short story.

Rick Riordan
Richard Russell "Rick" Riordan was born on a day like this on 1964. He is an American author best known for writing the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" series. He also wrote the "Tres Navarre" series for adults and helped edit "Demigods and Monsters", which is a collection of essays on the topic of his Percy Jackson series. He helped develop the ten books in "The 39 Clues" series, and wrote the first book in the series, "The Maze of Bones". He recently completed a trilogy that focuses on Egeyptian mythology, "The Kane Chronicles", and is working on "The Heroes of Olympus", which is the sequel to the Percy Jackson series and focuses on Greek and Roman mythology.
