Concurrent with the 2nd day of the 19th Book Week of Islamic Republic of Iran, the specialized Women Studies Library opened in Majlis Library. IBNA: The opening ceremony was held this morning with the attendance of the manager of Majlis library, museum and doc's center, Hujatul Islam Dr. Rasoul Jafarian as well as the manger of Qom's jurisprudence library Hujatul Islam Mehdi Mehrizi.
The ceremony kicked off while Hujatul Islam Dr. Rasoul Jafarian delivered a speech saying science and knowledge are growing rapidly throughout the world however in Iran the educational and research movements in different fields particularly humanities are not done perfectly."
He went on to say that the main libraries should be located downtown and present the best facilities to researches and students. Digitalizing the written works including manuscripts and printed book is a significant problem in Iran since when at least thirty thousand to fifty thousand great Iranian books could be presented online, only 2,000 print works are offered online.
Talking about the specialized Women Studies Library he said:" The library inaugurated accommodating 2200 specialized works as well as journals which were released for women during the past 20 years."
In other news, Hujatul Islam Mehdi Mehrizi said:" Nowadays heeding the issues related to women is among the factors which evaluate a society's development. The matter of women's studies which nowadays we talk about dates back to some 300 years ago which started with their working issues and evaluating their rights, social positions and etc… which finally turned into feminism. I believe that as Islam suffers from Al-Qaeda, feminism encounters some extreme views as well which shouldn’t be an indicator for the field's study."
He then talked about the mid-19th century in Europe in which many serious works were written about women and added:" By the end of the 19th century the movement reached the Arab world as well which were presented in books of authors including Qaem Amin (Egyptian author). In Iran besides books, 30 journals were released for women specifically.
He added:" Although most of the Iranian books were written and expressed by religious figures. Then new books were penned by figures including Yahya Nouri, Sadr and Ayatollah Motahari who released statements beyond the time."
Following the victory of the Islamic Revolution the process of considering women's issues expanded a lot he said and added:" The process was the same in other countries as well."
The specialized Women Studies Library opened this morning in Majlis library.
