Reading a page of a book out of thousands and millions of pages is, for us, like looking through a window on brighter side of the world that is constantly calling us, tempting us to set on a journey with the frigate of a book for more and more adventures...
We didn’t look alike

We didn’t look alike. He had a gun and I didn’t. He stood with his back to me, and I stood facing him. He wanted to leave and I wanted him to stay. He was not like me; neither were his clothes, his eyes, or his words.

“There’s something in my belly and when it comes, you will have no more excuses,” I said.
“There’s something in my heart that if I say it, you will have no more excuses,” he said.
I liked to be like him but I wasn’t. I was seeking the light of our house, and he was seeking the light of the city.

“The house will be dark without you,” I said.

“And all the cities will be with me,” he said.

He went. The thing in my belly was born and the thing in his heart did not die with him and survived. My son grew up. Since then to the moment he has asked me a thousand times, “how did father look like?” and I have always shown him a photo – his photo, with a gun over his shoulder with his back to all the people viewing the photo, moving forward. But my son does not see him apparently. He repeats his question once again and I show him another photo. His father is standing in the trench with boots that have taken the color of the soil and eyes that are still smiling through the picture frame. My son looks at the photo and says, he looks like you, doesn’t he? After so many years I don’t get his words yet; I say, no!

I say, he was running like rivers, and I was like… - I want to say motionless like a swamp – but my son’s head rests on my vast lonesome breast and says: “like a mountain…” I don’t let him complete his sentence and quietly say: “We didn’t look alike.”
