Iranians to read Georg Simmel’s The View of Life
‘The View of Life’ is the last book of German sociologist and philosopher Georg Simmel that is published posthumously. Some regard the work as his testament. Shahnaz Mosamaparast is converting the book nito Persian. IBNA: Published in 1918, The View of Life is Georg Simmel’s final work. Composed in the years before his death, The View of Life was, according to Simmel, his “testament,” a capstone work of profound metaphysical inquiry intended to formulate his conception of life in its entirety.
Simmel suffered from liver canser and obstinately refused to take chemitherapy, as he had decided to spend the rest of his life in mental health and total consciousness to complete his last book, that is why ‘The View of Life’ is known as his testament.
Shahnaz Mosammaparast, translator of Simmel’s works in Iran, said: “The View of Life is a scientific work and not scattered diaries of Simmel. In this book he presents his philosophical view of life. In one of his four main books titled ‘Main Problems of Philosophy’ Simmel says a philosopher is one with a particular view of life and philosophy is not dominated by history. He believes that a philosopher’s view cannot be assessed as ‘ture’ of ‘false’; quite the opposite of science where one can absolutely refute an idea.”
Mosammaparast added that she is translating the book in line with other books and therefore it may take a longer time to finish.
