Cultural Deputy of the Ministry of Culture: Quality as criteria for Publishers ranking
According to Bahman Dorri Akhavi, cultural deputy of the ministry of culture, the quality of works published and their affinity with the Islamic Revolution’s goals make the criteria for the publishers’ ranking. He asserted that the opinions of Publishers guild will be considered for ranking. IBNA: Dorri said, “Some publishers might published a large number of books of no quality, yet there are publishers with high quality publication. We should consider quality as our first priority in ranking.”
He continued, “There are many issued involved in ranking publishers but we should have comprehensive measures and announce them to supervising team for confirmation.”
The cultural deputy of the ministry of culture also said, “Sometimes the ministry supports publishers which should not be supported and some others are not given any support whereas they need the ministry’s aids.”
Dorri added that targeting subsides should be provided for publishers and said, “For ranking we also negotiate with the guild institutions so that they can declare their opinions to be considered in ranking”.
According to Dorri, while many guilds in the country are ranked, it is a necessity to rank the country’s publications based on the publishers’ activities.
Dorri asserted, “We will resolve the intellectual and emotional gap between publishers and the ministry of culture and publishers should likewise try to fill in the gap between authors and themselves, since this shapes the largest complaint of authors about publishers brought up to the cultural deputy of the ministry as their only resort.”
He also reminded, “Our outlook will be based on quality of published works, moreover, we consider their affectability regardless of quantity, history of publications, and affinity with goals of the Islamic Revolution.
