“Philosophy on Street”: a metaphor of clash of ideas

29 Jul 2010 10:50
“Philosophy on Street: passage from Foucault and Baudrillard” is the first book of the series “Philosophical Encounters”. According to the editor of this collection, the title is a metaphor for the encounter and clash of thoughts and the foundations of Foucault’s and Baudrillard’s thoughts are pretext for philosophical narrative of various issues intended by the author.
IBNA: Hessam Salamt, editor of “Philosophical Encounter” series said, “The books in the series consist of both compilations and translations but are mostly based on late philosophy. About fifteen books are ready for publication in the approaching months.”

He added, “Rouzbeh Gilasian, the writer, has a creative way of philosophical reading in different issues based on Foucault’s and Baudrillard’s thoughts.”

According to Salamat, the first chapter of this book is a new narration of ideas of these two late philosophers while the second chapter includes the writer’s understanding of different issues like politics and technology.

Salamat considered the writer’s style in this book as metaphorical and poetic and said, “This style shows that he has been under the influence of Nietzsche.”

He further stated that even the title “Philosophy on Street” is not devoid of metaphor and explained, “By glancing at such a title some might think that they are facing a primary book on philosophy, whereas this is a metaphor of encounter, clashes and transportation between ideas.”

He continued, “The marginal title of Passage from Foucault and Baudrillard, and the term ‘passage’, is a little bit vague for the reader. But having gone through the book, the reader will understand that the author has set Foucault and Baudrillard’s basic thoughts as pretext for his own philosophical findings.”

Editor of “Philosophical Encounter” finally remarked, “In this volume we cooperate with young and less known writers and translators because experience proves that most of these people read well and write well”.

The book “Philosophy on Street: passage from Foucault and Baudrillard” is recently published by Rouzbehan Publications.
