City; a place in which literature and art reflect

19 Feb 2012 16:38

During the session of "Urban landscape in contemporary Iranian urbanization", Mohammad Taghi Rahnamaei said:" In fact city is the historical memory of humankind while it is a symbol of civilization as well. Migratory societies fail to build a civilization; unless they settle down.

IBNA: The House of Literati's history group held a session Saturday evening which was themed on urban landscape in contemporary Iranian urbanization. The meeting was attended by Mohammad Taghi Rahnamaei, Jamshid Kian-far as well as a group of architecture and urban landscape students.

Professor emeritus Rahnamaei said:" Going through the literature of urban and urbanism we learn that every field explains "city" according to its own point of view. Either it is considered through demography or economics. But here is the scientific definition: "City manifests the human being's concretized vital indicators."

He added:" In Human geography, a few indicators have been explained for people namely reproduction, work, housing, training and education, rest and leisure, needs and communication."

He went on to say that city is the most acceptable site for humans. Thus most of the people like to live in cities. Accordingly such motivations are veiled in social, economical and political issues. On the other hand, city reflects the human's arts. Arts form in cities and inject a spirit to the space which we know as heritage and include it in art and literature.

He added:" The constitutional revolution Iran was a turning point for urbanism. Before the revolution, urban elements didn’t hold any power and the cites failed to produce wealth which was indeed made in villages and then the interaction between cities and villages appeared."

The interaction made a class named businessmen who became the constitution's leaders. In fact the constitution handed over the power to urban representatives, the professor added.

Talking about the elements which formed the urban landscape he added: "Roads, the entrance and exit ports, squares, residential neighborhoods, the building's horizon level, urban spaces and etc… are among the elements.

He finally said:" Unfortunately the cities failed to flourish due to their speeding development."
