23 May 2012 16:12
Co-translated by Esmail Abbasi and Kaveh Mirabbasi, the 15th edition of Terry Barrett's "Criticizing Photographs: an introduction to understanding images" hits bookshelves.
IBNA: "Criticizing Photographs" is divided into eight chapters: 'About Art Criticism', 'Describing Photographs', 'Interpreting Photographs', 'Photographs and Contexts', 'Evaluating Photographs', 'Theory: Is It Art?', and 'Writing and Talking About Photographs'.

Photography in Iran has a history as long as the world and therefore, preparing specific sources for this field of art is a must. Before the publication of this book, all photography sources in Iran only dealt with technical issues, and with the establishment of photography major in universities such books were badly missing in Iran.

One of the main characteristics of the book is explaining theories with practical examples that teach the reader how to properly analyze a photograph. Application of postmodernist and feminist theories in photograph criticism is another innovation of the book.

Author Terry Barrett is American photographer and professor of Ohio State University who has bagged awards for his innovative teaching method.

‎The 15th print of Terry Barrett's "Criticizing Photographs: an introduction to understanding images" converted into Persian by Esmail Abbasi and Kaveh Mirabbasi is published by Nashr-e Markaz in 299 pages.
