Poetry is art's backbone: Ahmadinejad
"Art, with poetry as its backbone, is best manifestation of beauty," said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the closing ceremony of the 6th Fajr International Poetry Festival. IBNA: The closing ceremony of the 6th Fajr International Poetry Festival was held last night (February 20, 2012) at Tehran's Vahdat Hall.
Humanity is meaningless without culture, asserted the president in his address. "Without culture, humans have nothing to set them apart from other creatures."
Elsewhere in his remarks he posited that humanity would be spared if Ferdowsi was not born to offer his compositions. "Poetry musters all human wishes, emotions and concerns. A sonnet can convey what hundreds of books have to tell; hundreds of points can be brought in two versified sentences which is the best thing about art."
He further mentioned a number of prominent poets in the history of Iran like Rudaki, Ferdowsi, Hafiz, Sadi, Babataher, Molavi, Khayyam and Attar.
He praise Rudaki saying that he was apparently blind, in reality his mind\'s eye worked well and let him explain the most complicate matters in the simplest words.
