Abbas Jafari Moghadam, secretary of the 5th Yousef Literary Award announced that from now on sacred defense short story books will be assessed besides assessment of single short stories. Although Sacred Defense Book of the Year is annually held, we tend to also award the best short story volume published in 2010.

IBNA: The press conference of the 5th nationwide festival of Sacred Defense Short Story (Yousef Literary Award) was held today morning (Nov. 13) at Rahian-e-Noor Central Building with the speeches of Abbas Jafari Moghadam, secretary of the festival and Colonel Hassan Rasouli literary deputy of Foundation for the Preservation of Relics and Values of the Sacred Defense. 

At the outset of the conference, Rasouli said: "277 short stories penned by 147 Iranian writers – 80 women and 67 men – have been submitted to the secretariat." 

Then Abbas Jafari Moghadam stressed upon the society's duty for reflecting Sacred Defense realities. "Few conspicuous dissenters aim at sacred defense values in the name of realism, whereas any page of the history of Sacred Defense period is replete with historic realities." 

Secretary of Yousef Literary Award also announced that the submission due is extended to 6th December and the concluding ceremony would be held in February. The assessment is held in three phases, he continued. In the first phase, structurally weak short storied are ruled out. In the second phase, all remaining works are assessed by three jurors who should mark them based on special forms and focused on Sacred Defense values. Then all stories that are marked above 60 can enter the final phase. 

Jafari Moghadam added: "In the third assessment phase of the 5th Yousef Literary Award, five jurors examine the works and finally three works are introduced as winners and 17 more honored as praiseworthy." 

He further mentioned the publication of a collection of articles containing 15 to 10 articles in line with the festival. "Although Sacred Defense Book of the Year is annually held, we tend to also award the best short story volume published in 2010," he added. 

Jafari Moghadam finally remarked that selected short stories of the 5th Yousef Literary Award will be released in a volume, while the Foundation for the Preservation of Relics and Values of the Sacred Defense also tends to back literary critical sessions on selected works in order to keep contact with participating Sacred Defense writers throughout the country. 

In order to take part I the 5th Yousef Literary Award, you can submit your Sacred Defense short stories no later than December 6 to the Foundation for the Preservation of Relics and Values of the Sacred Defense, located at Hagh Parast Alley, Sarafraz Street, Shahid Beheshti Avnue, Tehran.
