The latest cultural headlines in the media. Iranology Foundation hanging teahouse paintings
Tehran Times: Tehran’s Iranology Foundation is displaying a collection of teahouse paintings, giving visitors a chance to review this unique style of Persian art in different eras.
Entitled “Ritual Paintings”, over 100 religious-themed artworks in different sizes and styles are on show, the Persian service of IRNA reported on Monday.
A collection of huge works by veteran Mansur Vafaii mostly ordered by the foundation is among the works on display featuring scenes of Ashura, the day Imam Hussein (AS) and his seventy-two companions were martyred on the 10th of Muharram.
Among the highlights is a painting by veteran Fat’hollah Qollar-Aqasi depicting the scene of Hazrat Abbas (AS), the standard-bearer of the army of Imam Hussein (AS), attempting to bring water for his brother’s children.
Hazrat Abbas (AS), brother of Imam Hussein (AS) was martyred during the Ashura event.
Ahmad Khalili, Mostafa Hamidi, Hossein Hamedani and Sharareh Salehi are also among other artists whose works focusing on Ashura events are on show.
Also included are works by Hassan Esmaeilzadeh centering on the tales from Ferdowsi Shahnameh.
The exhibit will be running until January 11 at the foundation located on Sheikh Bahaii St.

Book on Sassanid’s Downfall Released
Iran Daily: Vahid Alirezaei announced the publication of “Sassanid Downfall” in a book – covering 420 years of the history of Sassanid reign in Iran - as a second volume to ‘The Sassanid Glory’. “After the publication of ‘Sassanian Glory’ that narrated the ups and downs of the Sassanian reign, now ‘Sassanian Downfall’ familiarizes the reader with the history of Iran and how a powerful reign came to an end in the same fictional style applied in the first volume,” Alirezaei said. He went on to say that the present volume begins with the reign of Shirouyeh and runs on to the triumph of Iran by Arabs, the entrance of Islam to the land of Persians and the main reasons for the downfall of Sassanid Empire, IBNA reported. Alirezaei continued: “I have attempted to keep the fictional narrative style of the previous work and yet be loyal to history. I have expanded key figures and characters in a novel-style and still I have avoided imagination or falsification of history.” The first volume “Sassanid Glory” accounts the lives of Ardashir I (Babakan), Shapour, Hormoz I, Narses, Hormoz II, Azar Narses, Bahram, Balash, Ghobad, Jamasb, Khosrow I (Khosrow Anoushirvan), and Khosrow II (Khosrow Parviz). The scond volume entitled “Sassanian Downfall” deals with the lives of Ghobad II (Shirouyeh), Ardashir III, Khosrow III, Javanshir, Pourandokht, Goshtasb, Azarmeidokht, Hormoz V and Yazdgerd III. As the first one, the present book will be also released by Tarfand Publications.

Iran holds Muslim women media festival
Presstv: Iran has held Muslim Women's Print Media Festival hosting female Muslim publishers from different countries in the capital city of Tehran.
The four-day event aims to create a better understanding of the social role of Muslim women in different societies, Press TV reports.
The festival hosts some 28 publishers from 22 countries, including Belgium, France, Kosovo, Ghana, Indonesia and Iraq.
The event is held on the theme of 'media and soft power in the Muslim world' and participants will discuss ways to counter the way Muslim women are portrayed by the western media.
The festival also tries to present a true image of woman in Islam and draw the attention of those who have limited information regarding the activities and the role of women in Islamic societies.
The next edition of Muslim Women's Print Media Festival will be held in Lebanon next year.
