Peru author's Irish patriot book set for November
Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa will release in November a book about famed Irish patriot Roger Casement, who exposed abuses in the former Congo, publishing house Alfaguara said Tuesday. IBNA: According to AFP, Llosa, 74, has worked for nearly three years on "Celtic Dream" which narrates the life of Casement, credited with writing a first-hand account of rights abuses in former Belgian colony Congo at the turn of the 20th century.
Named after a poem written by Casement, "Celtic Dream" will appear in Spanish and Latin American bookshops and the Spanish market in America on November 3, the publishing house said.
Casement, who also defended the rights of Peruvian Indians and fought for Irish independence, was hanged by the British in 1916 for attempting to bring weapons into Ireland.
