20th year of journals indexing celebrated
A ceremony was held hours ago by the Namayeh Institute to celebrate 20 year of indexing journals and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the institute. "the institute is ahead of its planned outlook," said director general of Iran's public libraries. IBNA: Namayeh is an affiliate to the public libraries foundation. In the ceremony the executive manager of the institute Mohammad Reza Akhzarian Kashani said Namayeh began its work in 1998 and so far has indexed the data on over 700,000 journalistic articles.
As he said by the end of the present year in Iranian calendar, some 450 research journals will be added to the databank of the institute.
"Production of different pieces of software like women's studies, Rouholah, Ghazeh, and the Islamic revolution are among the activities of the institute," added Kashani. "Also, the process of indexing has been shifted from the old hand written indexes to its present automated system. So far 1409 subscriptions have been made to the system."
As he added, there are over 800 books in the library of the institute and its website is visited by up to 20,000 internet users.
Next week the Etrat software will be unveiled parallel with inauguration of the Ghadir Hall of Tehran's City Park. According to Kashani, with its 1000 files, the software is a comprehensive database for biographies, hadith and revayah of the 14 infallibles. Moreover, on the occasion of the research week (the ending week of Azar), the Namayeh software will be launched online.
He said by the Fajr decade the articles bank of the Namayeh institute will turn 30 and the users will be able to use al the articles published since 1979 in Iran. In addition, on the occasion of the decade, a comprehensive index of the journals published Islamic revolution and the history of Iranians' campaign in the 1963-79 era will be released.
He further told of the operationalization of a small digital library for the visually handicapped during the Fajr decade. "The library begins to work with 8,000 books and every month 30 ok titles will be added to the library," he said. "Also by the end of the current year a subject based software will be produced to cover subjects like art, management, book keeping, philosophy, and soft war."
Also in the ceremony, Mansour Vaezi, director general of the public libraries of Iran, said based on the premeditated plans, the institute is ahead of its visions. "While it was planned to index 800,000 articles by the end of the present year, some 790,000 articles have been indexed by the institute and the number will reach a million by the end of the year," he said.
