8 May 2012 14:50
During a session held on "Evaluating translation in Iran", Ehsan Abbaslou reviewed the different periods of translation in Iran saying unfortunately these days some translators render a book concurrently without knowing about one another's work.
IBNA: The session of "Evaluating translation in Iran" was held Saturday evening, May 5, at the 25th Tehran International Book Fair's House of Literati. During the session Abbaslou said:" Translation developed in Iran during the past two decades and was established in universities, accordingly it has been mentioned as a second job which indeed has created many problems."

He then talked about criticizing the translations saying that when criticism doesn’t exist, a translation may seem good. During the festivals, when the translations are compared with the original text the deficiencies are specified and sometimes the style of the writer changes as well.

The translator added:" A translation's criticism is as significant as a translation; however when a translator's works isn’t done correctly, a proper criticism cannot be presented as well. When a work is only translated for cash profits the speed will increase and on the other hand the accuracy will decrease."

He went on to say that specialized translation magazines can be a great help. If some believe that the national literature hasn’t progressed it is due to the wrong translation styles and the western samples and theories.

Moreover Hojatoleslam Bahman Akbari, manger of the center of organizing the translations of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), said that his speech is themed on issues including "What is translation?", "Why translation occurs", "How translation happens", "Necessities of translation" and "Translation's policymaking".

He added:" Translating works from Persian into other languages is supporting national production and capital and our national capital is our cultural investment and literary richness."

He said that Salman Farsi was the first translator who rendered the Holy Quran from Arabic into Persian. A translator should rewrite the text and present it according to its reader's culture, taste and thinking."

He finally talked about the center of organizing the translations of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization saying that the center of organizing translations is responsible to fulfill the supervising policies in reverse translations. We should explain translation's strategic policies.

The 25th Tehran International Book Fair is currently underway in Tehran and will run until May 12 at Tehran's Grand Imam Khomeini Prayer Ground with the motto of "A Quarter of a Century of Cultural Jihad".
