Internal Report 25th Tehran Int`l Book Fair

In French Embassy's absence

Farhang Moaser brings French titles to TIBF

8 May 2012 10:37
Farhang Moaser has attended all three sections of Tehran Book Fair 25 that is, as internal publisher as well as representative of few French publishers such as Didier, Hachette, etc.
IBNA: Besides its own publications in Persian, English and French, Farhang Moaser has brought a number of volumes by French publishers into Tehran Book Fair.

Following the closure of French Embassy's Cultural Office in Tehran, which used to get a stall in the book fair and offered necessary information to students and all those interested in studying in France, the 25th Tehran Book Fair is facing fewer French titles on the shelves. Meanwhile, Farhang Moaser has brought a number of books by French publishers like Hachette and Didier to the book fair. These are mainly non-academic publishers publishing fiction and children's books.

The volumes include French language coursebooks of varied methods, classical world novels converted to French, children's books, simplified French books at different learning levels, different French dictionaries, and anthologies such as "Antholgie de la poesie francaise du XVIIe Siecle".

A special part of the stall is dedicated to translations of works from Persian language and literature to French. A French translation of One Thousand and One Nights from the folio classique series, and a translation of Mawlana Jalaleddin Rumi's Rubaiyyat published by Albin Michel shine on this bookshelf.
However according to Negin Negahban, perennial manager of Farhang Moaser stall at Tehran International Book Fair who has attended the event for over nine years, the books showcased in the international stall are not for sale, and the visitors interested in them should refer to the foreign publishers' direct sales hall number 6A where Farhang Moaser presents original French books for sale in Rials.

Compared with the last year (Tehran Book Fair 24) the French stall of the international hall is much smaller and the books have decreased in number.

Negahban believes that the main reason for the comedown is widespread economical problems. She added that many French publishers have not been able to transfer their publications to the TIBF on time due to similar problems.

Whereas last year France had an affective presence in Tehran Book Fair by presenting over 500 new titles and held various cultural events on the occasion of the book fair and in cooperation with three Iranian publishing companies.

The 25th Tehran International Book Fair is currently underway in Tehran and will run until May 12 at Tehran's Grand Imam Khomeini Prayer Ground with the motto of "A Quarter of a Century of Cultural Jihad".
