Book on Jurisprudential rules of painting, sculpture

27 May 2012 12:37
A Modern Review of Illustration and Sculpture has been written by Zeinolabedin Shams in Arabic. The book deals with the Islamic jurisprudential rules on painting and sculpture.
IBNA: The book is based on the teachings of Hujatoleslam Alireza Arafi compiled by Ahmad Abedin-Zadeh in Persian and then was rendered into Arabic by Zeinolabedin Shams, said Naghi Mousavi, research deputy of Eshragh and Erfan Publications, in an interview with IBNA.

As he said, the book considers the religious aspects and restrictions of sculpture and painting as two artistic examples. Generalities, creation of painting, restrictions on imaging, and restoring paintings are some of the chapters of the book which is arranged in 214 pages.

The book begins with discussions on the views of different religions on sculpture and painting and provides a brief history of jurisprudential rulings about the issue.

The book addresses seminary and university students who may be interested in learning about the Islamic views on the arts of sculpture and painting.
