Author of the 4 volume collection "The history of science in Iran" says Iranians had perfect medical knowledge and information. The ancient texts which have been left behind indicate that medicine enjoyed great significance while the physicians had a special place.
IBNA: The first volume of "The history of science in Iran" is about the history of science since the ancient times till the advent of Islam. The 2nd volume is about the Islamic era till the Safavid dynasty in which most of the scholars and elites lived. The 3rd volume dates back to the Safavid era which continues till the Qajar Empire and the last book starts from the constitution era and incidents which have occurred so far moreover it depicts the progresses science made during different periods.

The book's author Esfandyar Motamedi told IBNA that during the ancient times Iranians cared more about medicine rather than calendars. We all know that pain and disease has always accompanied mankind. First humans believed that illnesses were due to the gods' anger and their cure was veiled in magic but since the time passed by different illnesses were discovered and a science named medicine was formed.

He went on to say that in Iran the science enjoyed significance, for instance the book of Avesta was the greatest medical book of ancient Iran. Moreover Denkart (a large collection of information regarding the doctrines, customs, traditions, history, and literature of the Mazda-worshipping religion) holds a detailed chapter about medicine which indeed presented better instructions for sick people.

He then talked about the Pahlavi medical books saying 5 methods of curing were recommended including reading holy books, using fire, herbs, surgery and curing with smoke. During the period many of the diseases were found and their cures were known as well.

Motamedi then talked about another book named "Pahlavi medicine" saying it was about 4332 kind of illnesses as well as their treatments."

Iranians had many more information as well for instance they knew about the spherical earth as well as its layers and etc…

The 3rd volume of the collection dates back to the Safavid era which continues till the Qajar Empire. During this period the Iranians learned new science, established Dar al-Funun(the first modern institution of higher learning in Persia) and sent students to foreign countries for higher education.

And he finally said that the 4th volume is about the constitution era so far in which universities and research centers were established.
