"Ishraq" yearbook released in Moscow

The 3rd number of "Ishraq" yearbook has been released in Moscow themed on Ibn Arabi. The book holds articles by Hassan Hassan-zadeh Amoli, William Chittick and Seyyed Hussein Nasr.

IBNA: The 3rd issue of "Ishraq" yearbook was unveiled during Moscow's Third International Conference on Comparative Philosophy in the Institute of Philosophy, Russian Academy of Science.

The 3rd issue holds some 40 articles which are released in 654 pages.

The articles which are themed on Ibn Arabi and his school are written by researchers from countries including Iran, Russia, Germany, Italy, the U.S., Egypt, Spain, France, Japan, Turkey, Canada, the U.K, Lebanon and Morocco.

Ishraq (Illumination) is a specialized yearbook themed on Islamic philosophy and mysticism which is released by Islamic Studies Foundation and the cooperation of Institute of Philosophy, Russian Academy of Science and Iranian Institute of Philosophy.

The book is published in Russian, English and French in Moscow. The council of the yearbook's authors is chaired by noted Islamic philosophy researchers.

The new issue is presented in 8 chapters including "Sufism and mysticism: school of Ibn Arabi", "Sufism and mysticism: other schools", " Peripatetic school", "Ishraq: school of Suhrawardi", "Philosophy of law", "Logic", "Philosophy of religion and Kalam" and "Discussions".

Similar to the previous editions, the 3rd book is edited by Yanis Eshots, noted Islamologist and professor of University of Latvia.

The work holds articles penned by figures including Seyyed Husein Nasr, Hassan Hassan zadeh amoli, Hamed Elgar, William Chittick, Bernd Radtke, Gerhard Bowering, Gholamreza A'avani, Abulfazl Kiashemshaki, Zein-alabedin Ebrahimi, Mojtaba Shahsavari, Firozeh Payan-matn and Mohammad Mesbahi.


The aim of the yearbook “Ishraq” (that is translated as “Illumination”) is, firstly, to encourage the establishing of a Russian-language Islamic philosophical discourse and, secondly, to form a background for scientific discussions on the most important items of the Islamic philosophy, and, thirdly, to invite attention to interesting research works in the area of Islamic philosophy studies led by Russian, Iranian, European and etc. scholars.

The first issue of Ishraq themed on Islamic philosophy was released in 2010. The main topic of "Ishraq-2" was Suhrawardi’s philosophy of illumination while the 3rd book is about Ibn Arabi.

The 4th book will be released in 2013 on "Khajeh Nasir Toosi".
