Book of the Year Award juries meet
A meeting was held in Tehran's Laleh Hotel last night (28 February) in which figures as minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, his cultural deputy, a group of the ministry's officials and authors were present. IBNA: The ceremony kicked off with Holy Quran's verses and the anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Delivering a speech, the cultural deputy of the Islamic Guidance and Culture Minister, Dr. Mohsen Parviz said: "The Book of the Year Award's bylaw should be updated according to judgment results."
Going through last year's reports, we discovered that translation had beat compilation, he added.
He went on to say that the matter requires pathology. Translation's prominence indicates that either our translation is superior or I have to say that its judgment suffers from negligence.
Pointing out that ranking translation should be accomplished according to the translated work not the source text, he added: "In some cases the judges have considered the original work instead of the translation task, while we don’t award foreign works but the task of the Iranian translator. So our looks should slide towards the attempts accomplished by Iranian translators."
Moreover he underlined: "We encounter another problem; sometimes some categories don’t have selected works since none of them gained a 90+ grade. Another look says that the judgment should be based on existed book and a top one should be chosen."
The cultural deputy of the Islamic Guidance and Culture Minister said: Since the Book of the Season Award inaugurated, judgment of Book of the Year Award enjoys a stronger system and if a book is ignored, counter to the previous years it would not stay away from judgment."
Moreover he said: "Whatsoever mentioned should be considered and hope that scholars and literati's information help us improve."
In other news, some judges as Ahmad Shakeri, Dr. A'vani and Hujat Ul-Islam Abhari, presented their ideas on Book of the Year Award's judgments.
Furthermore Mahmoud Ekrami recited an ode for the attendants.
