6 Nov 2011 16:11
During the critical session held on the play 'Tiki-Taka' penned by Atila Pesyani, Mohammad Cahrmshir termed it as a play based on character and asserted that by minimizing the story characters can grow.
IBNA: The critical session on Atila Pesyani's "Tiki-Taka" was held yesterday evening, November 5, at the House of Theater with the presence of critics Omid Rouhani and Mohammad Charmshir and the playwright Atila Pesyani.

At the beginning of the session, Mohammad Charmshir said in the last five years, interesting events have taken place in 'Bazi Theater Group' that is a good thing. Yet the diversity of performances and experiences do not abide by a firm line.
He continued: "After many years of experience, we still have problems in introducing character or a character-based drama. We cannot define our characters."

Terming the play 'Tiki-Taka' as a character-based work of drama, he asserted that by minimizing the story characters can grow.

Charmshir pointed to the dialogues as the main characteristic of this play and added: "We also have serious problems in developing dialogues in a way that characters can jest with each other or speak ironically. Only Asghar Farhadi in the screenplay of 'Nader and Simin – a separation' and Mohammad Yaqubi in his play 'Writing in Darkness' have achieved this."

He continued: "The language of Tiki-Taka gets closer to colloquium due to its simple structure, yet the borderlines between drama and everyday life is skillfully set and language effect is visible in dialogues when performed."

The next speaker was critic Omid Rouhani who appreciated Atila Pesyani's Tiki-Taka for coherency of the story, whereas his mimes lack clear narratives understandable for the public.

He added: "The play has a clear beginning and ending and the characters have identities. The main significance of the play is in its attempts for building dramatic images in a tangible form."

Rouhani regarded 'Tiki-Taka' as one of the most concise forms of theater in recent years that nears cinematic synapse due to its simple story and practical theme.

Then Atila Pesyani stated that his works are shaped in the light of experimentation and having a simple linear narrative does not oppose experimentation.

He continued: "The main significance of the play is rather is the silences than the dialogues. There are ellipses in the work and its performance. Iranian plays usually reveal all the necessary information to the audiences, but the structure of Tiki-Taka is based on concealment and information are permeated along with this letting the audience experience a sense of discovery."

Pesyani added: "The writing of the play took five months and it was a hard task. Some scenes I had in mind were later omitted from the play. And the intentional silences in the play should also be noticed."

Tiki-Taka was premiered last year during the 29th Fajr Theater Festival.

The play accounts the relationship of a father and son who try to come up with mutual understanding. The play was staged by Atila Pesyani and his son as main characters.

Tiki-taka (commonly spelled tiqui-taca in Spanish) is a style of play in association with football, characterized by short passing and movement, working the ball through various channels, and maintaining possession.

The play 'Tiki-Taka' is published by Iran Theater Kargah.
