American Iranologist and mysticism and Sufism expert, Leonard Lewisohn and his wife, Jano Lewisohn visited IBNA on Wednesday August 11.

IBNA: Leonard Lewisohn is a Lecturer in Persian and an Iran Heritage Foundation Fellow in Classical Persian and Sufi literature at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter, England. He is the author of Beyond Faith and Infidelity: The Sufi Poetry and Teachings of Mahmud Shabistari and The Wisdom of Sufism as well as the editor of The Heritage of Sufism.

The cultural deputy of Book House Institute, Ali Ojabi, philosophy professor, Shahram Pazooki, and the head of Persian literature encyclopedia, Hassan Anoosheh accompanied the Lewisohns.

During the visit IBNA's chief editor, Ali Agha Ghaffar introduced the news agencies activities as well as Book of the Week journal.

Moreover Lewisohn and his wife visited the Book House Institute as well.

His "The Heritage of Sufism" and "The Sufi Poetry and Teachings of Mahmud Shabistari" have been rendered into Persian by Dr. Majduddin Keivani.

Lewisohn was one of the winners of the 15th edition of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s International Book of the Year Awards for his book “Attar and the Persian Sufi Tradition”.

"Hafiz and the Religion of Love" edited by Lewisohn has been recently released in New York in English; it holds an introduction and preface authored by the editor and 4 main chapters.

The introduction is penned by Peter Avery and it introduces Hafez, biography, his poetry and art.

A session was held last week on assessing the book which was attended by Lewisohn, Majduddin Keyvani and a group of Hafez researchers and Persian language and literature professors.

Supervised by Lewisohn, Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter of England has executed several Iranology projects including holding a International conference of Hafez in April 2007.
