Her power has made her an invincible dictatress who seems to enjoy an eternal deathless life. By narrating the 14 day span of time between her death and burial ceremony, the narrator makes a severe criticism of colonialism and dictatorship.
Instead of a normal linear narrative, the writer has chosen a flashback third person narrative style in order to better inform the reader by means of reviving past memories. Flashback is a dominant literary technique in this short story.
