“Frankfurt Book Fair an ideal venue for cultural interactions”

16 Jul 2012 17:17
Managing Director of Iranian Cultural Fairs Institute (ICFI) said that Frankfurt International Book Fair is an ideal venue for cultural interactions.
IBNA: Mohammad Azimi said: “Frankfurt International Book Fair is a unique event considering its participating countries, publishers and the presented books.”

Last year the Islamic Republic of Iran failed to attend the fair however this year, the necessary steps have been taken for the pavilion of the Islamic Republic of Iran to be an ideal one, he added.

Managing Director of Iranian Cultural Fairs Institute added: “In order to find an appropriate place for Iran’s pavilion, negotiations have been made with the mangers of Frankfurt Book Fair as well as Iran’s ambassador to Germany.”

Underlining that Iran should have an impressive participation in Frankfurt International Book Fair, he added: “ So far we managed to get a 96sqm pavilion which will be located near the pavilions of European countries while during the previous year the space was about 80sqm.”

During the Frankfurt Book Fair, a hall will be allocated for Iran in which speeches will be delivered on the publication and culture of the Islamic Republic of Iran and today’s Iran, he added.

He went on to say that a part of the pavilion will be allocated for the negotiations of Iranian publishers and authors with the writers and publishers of other countries.

Talking about the interaction of Iranian and foreign authors and publishers he added: “The interactions will lead to mutual translations as many Persian books, through being introduced to foreign publishers and authors, can be rendered into other languages.”

Iranian Cultural Fairs Institute is currently designing the pavilion of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The designs should be in line with our ideals and aims through which we can encourage the visitors to visit the pavilion, he stated.

Children and young adult’s media will be a focal point at the Frankfurt Book Fair (10 - 14 October 2012). In Frankfurt, around 1500 publishers and media-creators will present their innovations in this sector.

Moreover Iran will also present children and young adult’s books in a part of its pavilion.

New Zealand will be the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair’s guest of honor.

During the fair, Iran will present books covering different subjects including history, religion, poetry, literature, Sacred Defense, wisdom, philosophy and the Persian Gulf.
