  The Little House

Mohammad-Ali Olumi

Reading a page of a book out of thousands and millions of pages is, for us, like looking through a window on brighter side of the world that is constantly calling us, tempting us to set on a journey with the frigate of a book for more and more adventures...
The Dream

She could not sleep. Lying in bed she turned sides and thought to herself what the matter was. Why did she regard Amir as her brother for such a long time, but now she felt a crush on him? What does all this mean? Manijeh tried not to think of Amir but the more she tried the less she could put him out of her mind; Amir's image always returned persistently and agonizingly…

At last Manijeh went to sleep and had a weird dream, in fact a nightmare: she dreamt of a new reclusive district with a roofed orchard-like yard next to a house similar to hers that was fenced with rather a short iron parapet in which a grey horse was stuck heaving in piles of sticky tar.

The horse struggled to set free of tars and failed. Sickly and exhausted it took two steps in the tar and attempted to jump over the iron parapet but it merged in it more. Surprisingly no one in the district paid attention to the unfit state of the poor horse. The place was empty. A Paykan, like her father’s Peykan, passed quickly through the alley but the occupants of the car paid no attention to the horse. Could anything be done to save the horse? - Manijeh asked herself.
