In the opening ceremony of the 2nd National Conference of Quality Management in Print, Bahman Dorri, Cultural Deputy of Guidance Ministry, said that the basis of cultural development and progress in the past 2 centuries has been print which is an indication of the impact of print in human life.
IBNA: The 2nd National Conference of Quality Management in Print opened in a ceremony in the presence of Bahman Dorri, Cultural Deputy of Guidance Ministry, Yousef Afrash, caretaker of the Print Office of the Culture Ministry and head of the policy-making council of the conference, Khodayar Sadeghi, the event’s secretary, heads of print unions, conference sponsors and print industry activists, at the Research Center of Culture, Arts and Architecture of the Jahad Daneshgahi on Saturday, July 14, 2012.

“Print is so important in humans’ lives that is sometimes taken for granted and highlighting its significance is one of the ways to promote product quality and heighten standards in the field,” he said in his keynote speech.

“Aside from being an industrial field, print is a cultural concept,” he asserted. “By and large, printing and packing are not deemed as forms of communication [in Iran], while they should be celebrated as nationwide media.”

He went on to say that in the world, print and packing are considered as media and “we should, likewise, employ the industry as a means for conveying our cultural messages and stance to the world.”

Elsewhere in his speech, Dorri posited that the conference is arranged in line with the year’s title: year of national production and support for Iranian labor and investment.

He further stated that conferences, workshops and sessions should not be a mere gathering for presenting methods and solutions. “We must drive at operational solutions in quality-related issues and try to reach the pre-defined goals of the conference.”

He also commented on cultural engineering and its importance saying, “The issue of cultural engineering has been considered in the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. Basically, no cultural engineering can be materialized unless all its strong and weak points are assessed.”

He said that preserving achievements is the most important concern in cultural engineering. “There are many experts in the print industry who should convene in sessions and discuss their views [about the ways to promote the industry].”

He further noted the 1-trillion dollar turnover of the print industry in the world in which Iran’s status is not compatible with its potentials.

Dorri finalized his statements saying that many cultural concerns can be overcome through print.
