Afghans praise Imam Ali in their poetry

16 Nov 2011 15:23
On the sidelines of the Ghadir Rain conference, Abdolfayaz MehrAyin, Afghan poet, said most Afghan poets tend to pay tribute to Imam Ali in their compositions.
IBNA: In an interview with IBNA, Mehrayin said many poets in Afghanistan have so far created poetry pieces about Imam Ali, his family and the Ghadir Al-khumm event.

As he said, the poets revere the imam regardless of their religious belief or sect. In other world, even Sunni poets are keen on lauding the imam in their pieces.

He went on to say that Imam Ali's personal characteristics are mostly praised by Afghan poets. Features of the imam like generosity, bravery, justice, impeccability, piety and being the shining example of virtue are usually addressed in the pieces.

He further complained about the lack of interest for Afghan books among Iranian publisher and book readers and said the opposite is not the case in Afghanistan and many Afghans welcome books written by Iranians. "In most of the Afghan provinces, books published by Iranian publisher are being sold making Afghan literati well aware of the latest literary developments in Iran," he added.

With all limited facilities, Afghans read a lot of Iranian books but in Iran publishers do not publish and sell books written by Afghan writers, he argued.

In response to a query about popular Iranian works in Afghanistan, Mehrayin said Hafiz Divan can be found in almost all Afghan houses. Also, Ferdowsi's magnum opus Shahnameh, Sa'adi's Bustan and Golestan, Attar Neyshabouri's Mantegho Teir and Rumi's Masnavi Manavi are widely read and praised in Afghanistan, he added.

He went on to say that poetry lovers seek many of the works by contemporary Persian poets like Shahryar, Parvin Etesami, Forough Farokhzad, Gheisar Aminpour and Mohammad Ali Bahmani. In addition, many emerging poets tend to utilize their poetry styles in their poetries.

He further highlighted the recent release of two of his poetry collections. "So far, I have published two poetry books titled as Azarioun and the Mohre Mirror containing forms like sonnets, quatrains, and the Masnavi sonnets. The collections include emotional and social topics. Besides, another collection is ready for publication which deal with political matters," he said.

In 1960, Abdolfayaz Mehayin was born in Samangan Province of Afghanistan and studies political sciences in the university. Besides the two mentioned books, Mehrayin has published a research book on the literary features of the Kashfolasrar.
