The Winners of 29th Book of the Year Award Sayar: Crackdown in poetry and literature should be lessened
The poetry collection "Hush money" composed by Mehdi Sayar was introduced as the selected book in the 29th Book of the Year Award. The poet of the collection believes that, through implementing fewer crackdowns, this award can be gifted to a book which has received the necessary quorum in order to have at least an awarded book each year in the poetry and literature section. IBNA: In an interview with Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) Sayar said: "Hush money" is considered my second collection of poetry and contains 42 poems written over the late 10 years on various topics like social, emotional and ritual issues, and some of breathtaking story, and personal monologues as well. He explained: These lyrics are neoclassical. In these poems; I have also tried to respect a worldview harmonious to my own character and to the Iranian culture and traditions as well. In other words, despite of the different issues there is a constant regard at the poems. Their constant background has also been obtained from the Iranian- Islamic cultural fundamentals.
"Hush money" had also been selected as preferred in the 16th Book of the Season Award. In response to the question that "what features you believe were affecting and involved in the selection of the book as the best one?" he answered: although I shan't answer this question as a poet; but I should confess that I have always been so attentive to details and put specific scrupulosity in writing poems and selecting them to be published. And I have not been -even momentarily-far from the atmosphere of ancient and contemporary poetry as well.
He added: I have also tried to promote the structural, linguistic and intellectual content of poetries and while writing poems my ever concern has always been to cogitate in poetry. In other words, I have minded and considered the history of Persian poetry and the contemporary events in my poems. Although, the general political and social occurrences are not explicit in my poems, their language freshness is felt from in them obviously. In response to another question regarding his opinion about "Book of the Year Award" he explained: this award is the most prestigious one in the field of book in Iran and can help different areas grow, including poetry and literature, but with this prize, there were always some sort of disappointment and frustration among poets especially the younger ones, because in the poetry section often no book was known by the referees as the deserving one to get the award.
He clarified: This caused the poets do not follow the process of such an award in the poetry filed so carefully. While, giving information on the Poetry Book of the Year should constantly be updated. Although, numerous awards and festivals are held in the field of poetry, they are by no means comparable with the "Book of the Year Award". Emphasizing the importance of reconciling this prize with the country's poetry atmosphere; Sayar added: "Book of the Year Award", is to select and introduce each year's best book. This selection will change in the next year, so with lesser crackdown; each year the book in the field of literature and poetry can be selected to give the prize which will receive the required quorum.
He said: Unfortunately, it is not the case right now, and just once an every few years a book of poetry or fiction is selected as the "Book of the Year". In the field of fiction this gap is albeit removed, with the prize of "Jalal Al-Ahmad". In response to the question "Whether the gap in the poetry area cannot be filled through the Fajr Poetry Festival?" The poet explained: Fajr Poetry Festival has its own place. If the amount of the Fajr Poetry Festival Prize manage to get somewhat closer to the prize of "Year Book" or "Jalal Al-Ahmad Award "; then perhaps it eliminate the gap. Finally he noted: the judgment level of the Fajr Poetry Festival should be promoted to make it more inclusive, so that this Festival can goes tantamount to the "Book of the Year Award".
