DR Congo, Iran ink cultural MoUs

  Culture Minister: 'Iran & DR Congo enjoy cultural commonalities'

Iran's Islamic Guidance and Culture Minister Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini and the Democratic Republic of Congo's Communications Minister, Lambert Mende Omalanga, signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) in the fields of culture, cinema and news exchange. During the visit Hosseini emphasized on Iran and DR Congo's frequent cultural commonalities.
IBNA: During the visit, held on Tuesday in Tehran's Vahdat hall, Seyyed Mohammad Husseini said:" Besides the political and economical cooperation and interactions, Iran and DR Congo hold frequent cultural capacities which can be flourished during these type of trips."

Talking about Africa's culture of independence and freedom the minister added:" There was a time in which Belgium colonized Congo however the country achieved independence in 1960."

Moreover he said:" However the country encountered many state wars, Iran tried to bring peace to it. Currently the Congo government is a fan of Patris Lumumba and opposites the west dominance."

He then talked about the expansion of Iran and DR Congo's cultural ties and added:" The trip's result was the formation of several cultural interactions in fields including holding cultural and artistic fairs as well as conferences."

He underlined:" DR Congo's delegation visited Patris Lumumba Ave. in Iran. While they found it quite interesting we expect a road named after Imam Khomeini in DR Congo."

The delegation visited IRIB as well and considering the translation of the movie "Mary" into French and the country's interest in Iran and Imam, they asked us to hand over some other Iranian cultural works, he finally said.

In other news, Lambert Mende Omalanga said: "Today we are proud to walk in a street named after Patris Lumumba and promise to keep Imam Khomeini's name alive in DR Congo."

Omalanga voiced his country's enthusiasm for enhancing the level of relations between the two states.

During the visit, the Islamic Guidance and Culture Minister donated the book of "Iran, my land" to the cultural delegations.
