18 Jul 2012 12:51
An official of Iran’s public libraries’ institute said that Iranians’ virtual library will be established. According to the plan, the books of all public libraries will be scanned and the publishers should send a copy of their books to the virtual library.
IBNA: A session was held in the central library of the City’s park on Tuesday, July 17.

During the session, an official of Iran’s public libraries’ institute talked about the plan of reading stations saying that the matter was mentioned a year ago in the institute and currently it is being launched. The plan was initiated during the private meeting of the librarians with the Supreme Leader. During the session, the leader said that some plans should be carried out which will promote reading. The matter was underlined during their public meeting as well.

Following the Supreme Leader’s statements several actions were taken and we intended to deepen our cultural activities. In the field of sources, many investments were made for purchasing sources; last year 3billion tomans were spent for a plan named “My book”; which is the main priority of the Libraries’ Institute, moreover 70% of the books will be bought according to the library member’s choice.

Majduddin Moalemi talked about the establishment of a comprehensive virtual library of Iranians saying that according to the plan books of all public libraries will be scanned and kept at the library. Moreover all governmental publishers should send a copy of their books to the library.

He then talked about the establishment of the committee of useful reading movement saying that the plan was also the result of visiting the Supreme Leader and all book related systems ratified plans for increasing the section’s quality and quantity activities.

In other news he added that the institute’s main concern was building libraries in big cities including Tehran since the government easily makes investments in rural libraries and each of them holds some 250-300 members.

He then explained about the reading stations saying that providing the station’s sources is the main challenge. Purchasing the sources require three steps; choosing a book, the publisher and author’s agreement and the book’s print. The libraries’ institute is sensitive about the book’s selection and it tries to pick up the best book in every field. Through the plan every book will be published in 150,000-200,000 copies.

On the other hand the books should be precious and cheap, accordingly we will choose books of noted authors, he added.

Monthly 15 books will be added to the stations, he noted.

The reading stations will be mounted in different public venues including mosques, airports and hospitals.
