Emami, the translator of "Oriana Fallaci's interviews"

An uncalm questioner who was not into negotiations

20 Apr 2009 14:45
The translator of "Oriana Fallaci's interviews" considers his latest work a new look to the people and thoughts that have already been closely discussed. He added: the connection of Fallaci's three important interviews to the destiny of Iranian people is my most important reason for undertaking this translation.
IBNA: Gholamreza Emami, writer and translator of social and political books considers the relevance of three of Fallaci's interviews to Iran as his motivation for undertaking the translation of Oriana Fallaci's interviews, he said: Fallaci's interviews with Imam Khomeini, Mr Bazargan, and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (The dethroned king) are three of her interviews which are directly related to Iran.

During her lifetime, her interviews attracted many readers, and more than 200 magazines and newspapers from around the world published them.

Familiarizing Iranian youth with a famous western journalist's views, is the other reason for translating this book for Mr Emami: these interviews present a new look to the people and thoughts that have already been closely discussed. Fallaci's view might be far, but it is sharp, questioning and from a different angle.

Oriana Fallaci (29 June 1929 - 15 September 2006) was born in Florence, Italy. During World War II, she joined the resistance despite her youth, in the democratic armed group "Giustizia e Libertà". Her father Edoardo Fallaci, a cabinet maker in Florence, was a political activist struggling to put an end to the dictatorship of Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini. It was during this period that Fallaci was first exposed to the atrocities of war. Fallaci began her journalistic career in her teens.

Fallaci became famous by her report of the 1968 Tlatelolco massacre. She was shot three times, dragged down stairs by her hair, and left for dead by Mexican forces.

On Oriana Fallaci's Interviews, Emami said: This book includes his latest interviews and the text is from Corieero Della Sera newspaper.

"Fallaci was a leftist who joint the right wing towards the end of her life, she was an uncalm questioner who was herself not into negotiations. She wanted to get the answers to her questions from others, and this is how I know her." Said Mr Emami.

He added: Fallaci's intraction with the dethroned Shah is sharp and serious: since she was very head-strong and daring, she did not fear Shah and asked her questions boldly.

Gholamreza Emami is a writer and translator. He published his first work when he was 16. Emami translates from English, Arabic and Italian and is an award winning writer of children's books.
