IBNA specific report of publications rates in first half of the year

  Women more inclined to translate than compile

According to the latest reports of Book House Institute, %83 of the books published during the first six months of the current solar year have been compiled by men, while %13 women's share in the publications shows a growth up to %28 in the field of translation, revealing women's more interest in the art of translating.
IBNA: According to the latest report of Iran Book House Institute, the number of compilations in the first half of the current year (21st March – 21st September 2011) shows a %2 growth compared with the past year whereas the number of translations has fallen off for %7. The books released in the first half of this year have been published by 3385 different publishers. 

Moreover, %83 of the books published during the first six months of the current year have been compiled by men, while %13 women's share in the publications shows a growth up to %28 in the field of translation. 

This shows that women have shown more interest in the art of translation. In this section, %72 of the total sum of translations is made by men. 

Moreover, SAMT (Organization for Researching and Composing University Textbooks in the Humanities) stands on top of the list of the most prolific publishers in the first half of the year. During this period, SAMT published 314 books out of which 258 volumes are compiled and 56 more, translated. The next positions are respectively occupied by Boustan-e Qom with 192 volumes and Soureh Mehr with 182 volumes. The next publishers in the list are Nashr-e Jangal, Amir Kabir and Cheshmeh. 

And the highest number of translations published in this period belongs to Ghatreh Publications that despite a general downfall of the number of translations, it has released 82 translation books. 

As for the Children's Publishers, Ghadiani is the forerunner with the publication of 130 titles (50 compilations and 80 translations). This publisher is mostly active in the field of translations and as the statistics reveal, the priority in this publishing house is given to translation. 

And in the field of compilations for children and young readers, Buraq Publicatinos is the first with a total number of 95 compiled volumes for children. 

Based on the statistics, translated volumes for the children have been 1390 titles that compared with the statistics of the same period in the last year, it shows a %0.5 decrease. And this is the same with the average circulation number of children's books with a %0.5 decrease.
