Ali Larijani:

“Motahari’s works were based on justice, freedom”

2 May 2012 12:48
Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said all martyr Motahari’s works were based on justice, holiness and freedom. “In his works, these three concepts are mingled together,” he said.
IBNA: Larijani made the above comments in the 8th International Hekmat Motahar (the spiritual philosophy) Festival held at IRIB’s conference hall on May 1, 2012.

“We can sketch martyr Motahari’s concerns for the future of the Muslim world by an extensive exploration of his social, political and religious works as well as his role in the Revolution Council,” said Larijani in his address at the conference.

The conference was attended by representatives from Turkey, India and Pakistan, members of martyr Motahari’s family, a number of university and seminary researchers, and some literati and cultural officials.

Elsewhere in his address, Larijani highlighted the need for understanding martyr Motahari’s works and asserted that in the years that followed the Islamic Revolution a lot was done regarding dissemination of Motahari’s works and the expecting results are revealing themselves in the society.

He went on to say that in the Islamic republic everyone’s functionality is appraised by the amount they are in line with Motahari’s thinking. “Today, many tend to show affection towards Motahari, but such affection should to gain depth by getting mixed with the study of his works.”

Larijani further added that Motahari’s thinking is comparable to that of Jahn Rawl. “John Rawls had a restorative approach towards liberalism; however, he fails in some aspects of his thinking. On the other hand, Motahari cast a varying look at concepts like liberalism and justice and based his views on a much more tangible foundation.”

Larijani said that Motahari was in favor of nationalism so far as it did not hinder the society’s growth. “Motahari believed that nationalism should not entrap human thinking. He opposed those who believed that Islamic thinking fades the Iranian identity and discussed the matter in detail in one of his works titled as the Reciprocal Services of Iran And Islam.”

“Motahari was a scholar whom can be very useful in the spreak of Islam in the world,” said Mir Mohammad Ebrahim Mir in his speech at the conference. Mir is the Urdu translator of martyr Motahari’s works. “Religion and science are complementary concepts that need to be disseminated through Motahari’s books and other related tools in the world to promote human life style.”

He also said that new centers will be established in Kashmir on teaching and studying Motahari’s works.

On the sidelines of the conference, the research center of the IRIB (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) showcased martyr Motahari’s works and other related works in the form of CDs and printed books.

The ceremony finalized with praising Shahabodi Mashayekhirad, Amrollah Husseini Momenzadeh, Fatemeh Shabani and Kamal Akbari as the best Hekmat Motahar researchers of the conference.
