In one of them titled ‘New Year Morning’ we read: “I was captured in the early 1984. Representatives of the Red Cross hadn’t yet come to our camp, and the Iraqis did whatever they wished.” “Each nursing home had twelve windows from which we were easily monitored by the Iraqis. In later years, guys stole a toothbrush with a mirror in the back from the Iraqis. The toothbrush was given by the Red Cross for the prisoners, but we hadn’t yet received it. We had someone who watched the Iraqis coming from the sanatorium, with that toothbrush, and we immediately informed the other barracks with socks. If we tied the socks to the bars, it meant that the Iraqi guard had left and if we untied the sock, it meant he was back and they had to be careful. This way, we could covertly, and away from the Iraqis’ eyes, do our plans. We carried out our plan that day with difficulty and were punished by the Iraqis for it. Among our secret plans was making cookies.” Elsewhere in this part we read: “We had a hard time holding the New Year ceremony and were punished by Iraqis for conducting it. One of our hidden secrets was making cookies with bread pulps. We made the cookies from the bread they gave us for breakfast and supper. We took out the pulp inside the bread and let it dry in the sun. There was always one of us, of course, guarding to see these were not seen by the Iraqi guards, as we could be beaten up for it. When the pulp dried we would pound them with stone to make flour and then keep it for the New Iranian Year Eve to fix the sweet. All these was provided with a monthly salary of half a Dinar. Guys would hardly get anything for themselves. We only went to the store to get something which was usually milk powder or sugar. We couldn’t of course prepare Haft-Seen, so guys painted its picture. Iraqis knew we had some plans for the New Iranian Year, so they suddenly intruded on the first morning of the New Year and said: “There! Hands up! All go out!” They first searched us physically and then sent us out and took our things and tore our writings and paintings.”           ]]> Sacred Defense Mon, 28 Mar 2016 20:29:45 GMT http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/234458/haft-seen-on-soil-features-iranian-pows-memories-of-norouz The biography of Seyyed Morteza Avini compiled http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/naghli/234339/the-biography-of-seyyed-morteza-avini-compiled According to IBNA correspondent, quoting from Mehr News Agency, the author of Avini’s Biography Mahdi Mozafari Savoji said: “In the first part of the book, life and works of Martyr Avini is discussed and I’ve tried not to look at the topic from my own point of view. Black-clad warriors with tents and trenches in the first ten days of Muharram tried to keep the memory of friends and the glory of the rising of Imam Hussein (AS) alive in their hearts and stand against the enemy under the influence of that culture. IBNA has reviewed the Muharram in front lines through the lines written in the book ‘The leg left behind’. This book which is written is dedicated to the Iraqi Sergeant, Valid Farhan (The watchman in camp 16 of Tikrit who brutally tortured the author in captivity). ‘The leg left behind’ narrates the memories of 808 days Hosseinipour’s captivity in Iraq’s secret prisons. He was imprisoned in Iraq from June 24, 1988 to September 13, 1990. On pages 294 to 297 we read: “Monday, August 15, 1988, Al Rashid Hospital, Baghdad; ‘It was the second day of the month of Muharram. Dr. Aziz Nasser entered the sanatorium with a middle-aged man in personal suit whom I had never seen before. The Iraqi was wearing stylish suit. Doctor Aziz asked me, Qassem Faqih and Ahmad Sharifi, who was the youngest guy present in the sanatorium, to answer the questions of the Iraqi medical student. It seemed like he wanted to write his doctoral thesis. I think the subject was war and the young Iranian POWs.” He said, as the military could not defend the borders of Iran, Iranian government forcibly dragged young people from schools to the front. He asked several questions with a certain mentality. He wanted to know how popular forces could function stronger than an official army. The Department of Defense had allowed him to interview young prisoners to finish his dissertation. He took notes of our conversation. I’m not sure how fair he was in his writings. He asked about our incentives, the unquestioning obedience of the Basijis to Imam Khomeini, etc. With his simple, pleasant accent, Qassem Faqih told him: ‘I don’t know what you mean by incentive. We’ve come to defend our homeland.’ When we told him the truth of our hearts, he was surprised. He told me: “This question is nothing to do with my dissertation, just tell me if you’re upset to be our captive at this young age and to have lost one of your legs?” I replied: “Why should I be upset?” He said: “It’s hard for me to understand.” I said: “You know, we who have come to the front on our own two feet, had thought of these days too.”   ]]> Sacred Defense Sat, 24 Oct 2015 11:51:20 GMT http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/228896/book-manifests-ashura-mourning-in-captivity-during-imposed-war Book on the martyr soccer player published http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/228255/book-on-the-martyr-soccer-player-published According to IBNA correspondent, the work written by Maysam (Mehrdad) Mousavian was ordered by Revayat-e-Fath Publication Institute and the research and interviews were also conducted by this institute. These books are about two martyr pilots engaged in the Sacred Defense, the war former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein imposed on Iran. The series ‘Commanders of Iran’ introduce Iranian generals and commanders from the ancient times to the present day in the form of pocket-sized volumes. The book ‘Lion-heart of Shiroud’, written by Mohammad Ali Ja`fari, is one of these works that narrates the story of Martyr Ali Akbar Shiroudi in five chapters. On page 59, it says: “Once again the tanks were so entrenched that Shiroudi felt them a real nuisance. After the occupation of some parts of Sarpol-e Zahab, the Iraqi forces had barricaded their tanks in a way so that only the guns would be seen. Targeting was almost impossible. They had crippled forces and helicopters by so doing and deceived the helicopters in the sky. Wherever they entered, they were blocked and the tanks wouldn’t leave their barracks.” They were comfortably settled there and shot at their targets. Shiroudi was sleepless and ate little for a few nights. He couldn’t stop thinking about the tanks until it started raining one night and the raindrops made him think that something could soon happen inside the barricades. So he rushed to the barracks to tell it to the guys there. It was a right guess. By the time they reached the top of the tanks they saw them stuck in the mud as the proverb goes. Tanks were unable to move. Rain had filled the trenches and forced them to get out. It wasn’t much better outside and they were caught in the muddy path. Now they could only turn their Jacks and fire. However, tanks were still a problem due to their great number. Random fires had decreased the maneuverability of helicopters. The only refuge they could take was behind the hill where they were shooting. It had turned like a game of hide and seek. Helicopters would rise fast and fire and quickly go down into the pit behind the hill. Tank missiles would simultaneously hit the hill. None of the bullets hit the helicopters at first, but the mud of the blast splashed on their glass shield wasn’t any better. It blocked the pilot’s view. They were bending forward and trying hard to look through a clean spot if any. They were running out of missiles and decided to fly away at last.       ]]> Sacred Defense Fri, 21 Aug 2015 19:28:16 GMT http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/226086/life-stories-martyrs-shiroudi-and-keshvari-retold-in-books Translation of Sacred Defense books promotes culture of sacrifice http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/226009/translation-of-sacred-defense-books-promotes-culture-sacrifice According to IBNA correspondent, Sacrifice and Resistance Celebration on the occasion of the anniversary of the return of the Iranian P.O.Ws to the homeland, was held on August 17, 2015 in the Cinema Hall of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in the presence of Ali jannati, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Commander Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, former commander of the Revolutionary Guards Corpse and assistant and senior advisor to the commander in chief. When the war began, she got active in rescue operations and was finally hit by a mortar as she was delivering supplies to soldiers at Golforoushi crossroad in Khorramshahr, and died.       ]]> Sacred Defense Sat, 11 Jul 2015 14:52:55 GMT http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/224739/martyr-shahnaz-mohammadizadeh-s-biography-published Writing about the multifaceted character of Chamran difficult http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/shortint/224144/writing-about-the-multifaceted-character-of-chamran-difficult In an interview with IBNA, Mirkiae’i said: “This is the last book of the 16-volume series titled ‘Commanders of Iran’ published by Amir Kabir Publications. I’ve tried to bring the love of defending the homeland to life for today’s youth and acquaint them with the character of Martyr Mostafa Chamran as well.” The writer of ‘Where Do You Come from, Rose’ explained the content of the above-mentioned series as such: “The series ’Commanders of Iran’ deals with all commanders who defended the Iranian territory against the foreign invaders such as the Macedonians, Romans, Mongols, Ottomans, Portuguese, Dutch, Russians, British and the Iraqis; Ranging from Ariobarzan to Martyr Hemmat.” Referring to his narrative style in this historical series, he said: “This work is not in fact a fiction. I’ve tried to narrate a period of history as a story for my young audience.” The creator of ‘The Dwarf King and 40 Great Troubles’, described the significance of writing in the field of history for the adolescents as such: “It’s unfortunate that teenagers dislike history due to weaknesses in instruction, and when they come across a historical text they find it gloomy. In ‘‘Do Not Let him Rest: Dr. Mustafa Chamran’, I’ve tried to acquaint them both with the love of defending the homeland as well as with Martyr Chamaran’s character.”     ]]> Sacred Defense Mon, 22 Jun 2015 17:48:42 GMT http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/shortint/224144/writing-about-the-multifaceted-character-of-chamran-difficult Introducing “Sacred Defense” literature in the global scene http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/223972/introducing-sacred-defense-literature-in-the-global-scene According to IBNA correspondent, she has shared her experiences of the trip with those who wish to attend the Frankfurt Fair, in her writing. Browsing these memories will especially be interesting and useful for those who are interested in more information about the exhibition. Some sixteen years have passed since Iran’s presence at the show in Frankfurt, and there are as many memories and talks left as the number of people who have taken this trip. Each of the participants view the Frankfurt Fair from his own view and so interpretations and analyses might differ at times.  Ma’ssoumeh Ramhormozi, the author of ‘Last Sunday’ has taken a new glimpse at this cultural phenomenon and persuades the reader to follow Iran’s presence in the exhibition beyond a stereotyped and repetitive event. “Some opportunities are not easily gained but are easily lost. Travelling is one of these pure opportunities in life that must be treasured. I’m always ready to take a trip unless I’m prevented by a duty or something unexpected. Sometimes, I bypass all reasons and barriers because I see it my right to travel,” she writes. “A trip to the world’s largest book fair in Frankfurt, attended by world’s leading authors and publishers can be a memorable experience. Following the news of Frankfurt Book Fair, I read that Paulo Coelho and J.K. Rowling are the special guests of the exhibition this year,” Ramhormozi notes. She adds: “On the other hand, Seyyed Mahdi Shoja’i and Houshang Moradi Kermani were also invited to Iran’s booth. Surfing the stands of Asian and European countries and the U.S., and close encounter with notable writers of the world is fascinating for all those interested in books. For me, travelling to Germany, which is the source of deep philosophical thinking of great figures such as Nietzsche and Goethe, is just as important as visiting the Frankfurt Book Fair.”   ]]> Sacred Defense Tue, 16 Jun 2015 18:29:15 GMT http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/223972/introducing-sacred-defense-literature-in-the-global-scene 23 books published on the subject of Sacred Defense http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/223784/23-books-published-on-the-subject-of-sacred-defense According to IBNA correspondent, based on the information contained in the site of Iran’s Book House Institute, in the period between May 30 to June 5, 2015, 23 titles have dealt with the topic of the Sacred Defense and the war imposed on Iran by Iraq, in the history and geography group. Photographers are contemporary historians and photographs of the war recount a true story of our contemporary history.” Pictures are so clear that there is no way of ignoring them. Many years have passed since the days when “Amir Ali Javadian” stared through the lens of his camera at the men who had reached into the middle of Khorramshahr shouting, “We are the men of the war”. Photographers like Amir Ali Javadian, Reza Mohammadi, Kazem Akhavan, Saeed Sadeqi, Hossein Heidari and many more were still staring behind lenses when somebody, who happened to have a pen in his hand, wrote “We are the men of the war” on a piece of cardboard and early in the morning of May 24, stuck it on the fragmented dome of the mosque of Khorramshahr. Flash sounds of the analog cameras would become the clear voice of the history for me and other children of the 1980s and later years who do not know much about the war; this is what defines homeland for us. Pictures talk Javadian believes the language of pictures is more pronounced than other forms of art, and so far we agree with him. Ever since the modern man has adopted other languages such as photography, music, painting and even cinema for better communication, all these have become the language of art. These are far more efficient and dynamic than the verbal language as they can transfer thoughts, feelings and worldly outlooks besides the story itself.     ]]> Sacred Defense Sun, 24 May 2015 20:26:57 GMT http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/shortint/223134/god-freed-khorramshahr-pictures-narrate-the-calamity-of-city Martyr Avini’s unpublished writings to be printed http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/shortint/220754/martyr-avini-s-unpublished-writings-to-be-printed In an interview with IBNA, Hossein Alaayi, director of Ravayat-e Fat’h Publications explained the institutes’ activities with regard to Martyr Avini’s works: “About 15 texts by Martyr Avini were published until 2009 which is the date before the start of activities of ‘Vaheh’ publications in the publishing institute of ‘Ravayat-e Fat’h’. Upon the establishment of this publications by Maryam Amini (Avini’s wife), Martyr Avini’s books were almost entirely published by this institute.” Pointing out that the existence of Ravayat-e Fat’h Institute is based on the ideas of Martyr Avini, Alaayi said: “By the same token, separating the activities of the Ravayat-e Fat’h Publications from Martyr Avini’s thoughts is not possible. It is most unfortunate that by stopping the publication of Martyr Avini’s works in this institute, this thing happened to some extent, and our colleagues did not much tend to his way of thinking.” Responding to the question of whether this institute is in possession of more unpublished works from Avini, he said: “By this assumption, separating the activities of the institute from the thoughts of Martyr Avini is not possible. Unfortunately, this is what happened to some extent after the removal of Martyr Avini’s works in the institute and it caused a lack of attention to this issue.”   ]]> Sacred Defense Thu, 09 Apr 2015 15:23:10 GMT http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/shortint/220754/martyr-avini-s-unpublished-writings-to-be-printed Role of the Iranian Army in Sacred Defense portrayed http://www.ibna.ir/en/doc/tolidi/220568/role-of-the-iranian-army-in-sacred-defense-portrayed According to IBNA correspondent, the book titled ‘The Role of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Eight-Year Sacred Defense' for the use of the narrators of this war’s events is released.
