Thousands of NLAI sources to be indexed

The deputy of National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) pointed out to the library’s current sources which are not updated and said:” according to the sealed MoU between NLAI and a private company, some 600,000 saved sources will be indexed next year”.


IBNA: Dr. Habib ullal Azimi said:” One of NLAI’s programs for the next 4 years is updating and organizing sources, which will be indexed according to the lending law.”

As the activity will be accomplished by a private company he underlined:” the company was selected with attending National Library’s auction and according to the sealed contract it is responsible to index the works.”

He went on to say that many unavailable new and old important sources in the Latin, Arabic and Persian sections are awaiting to be indexed by the company.

Developing the sources through purchasing works from foreign countries are among our other programs, he remarked.

Moreover he explained that we are holding several training workshops as well as codicology classes in Iran and foreign countries, for instance academic libraries in Iran are invited to relearn the standards and hold various conferences.

Azimi added:” countries as Turkey, India, Central Asia and Pakistan which contain many manuscripts for indexing should be instructed, thus some professors will be sent to the countries.

Finally he said:” in the next 4 years, holding international and regional seminars on codicology and librarianship is anticipated for Iran’s national library.
