Book on Digital Architecture unveiled

24 بهمن 1390 16:02

The book 'Digital Architecture' helps designers and architects to virtually create real structures and survey interior spaces of their designs before construction.

IBNA: Authored by Dr Mahmoud Golabchi, Ali Andaji Garmaroudi and Dr Hossein Bastani, the book 'Digital Architecture' was officially unveiled during the 33rd 'Art and Architecture Discourse' at Imam Ali Art Museum on Sunday evening (February 13).

During this session that was attended by a number of renowned architects like Dr Katayoon Taghizadeh, Dr Mahnaz Mahmoudi, Sanaz Eftekharzadeh, Dr Jalil Olia, Kourosh Dibaj Tabatabaei and Ahmad Alipour, authors introduced the book and its contents.

"Digital Architecture: Designing via CAD/CAM/CAE Technologies" is authored by Dr Mahmoud Golabchi, professor of Architecture Faculty of the University of Tehran, Dr Hossein Bastani and Ali Andaji Garmaroudi, and is published in 240 colored pages in 12 chapters.

According to Golabchi, the increasing use of computers in designing, engineering and architecture for improving designs and increasing efficiency of a project is one of the most significant achievements in recent years.

The first chapter of the book is devoted to designing and manufacturing environments where the features of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing).

The second chapter deals with the panorama of computer software. The role of computers in designing, digital designing, designing process in architecture and algorithmic designing.

The third chapter makes a survey of the history of digital architecture and then offers hints to digital designing in big projects.

The fourth chapter is given to digital forms including applied techniques, algorithmic forms, and genetic modeling.

The fifth chapter introduces tools for digital designing. The concept of an algorithm, algorithm-based processes, comparison between human and computer minds, etc. are discussed in this chapter.

The sixth chapter deals with digital techniques and the seventh chapter introduces digital modeling by means of genetic algorithms. Special features of CAE/CAM/CAD software are discussed in the eighth chapter.

Entitled as "Digital Data Exchange in Production Systems", Chapter 9 offers scientific principles of data exchange in construction industry and various approaches to the usage of digital tools from designing to manufacturing.

Chapter 10 instructs how to design architectural covers and types of current models including triangular, rectangular and formless models.

The eleventh chapter deals with digital manufacturing in the light of software requirements and related construction activities. And the 12th chapter focuses on methods of digital production, from two-dimensional to reductive and augmentative methods that are based on transformation and montage.

The book is introduced as a viable textbook for digital design and production to be taught for architecture, industrial design, graphics and interior design, construction engineering, and mechanical engineering.
