IBNA- Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Abbas Salehi appreciated the efforts of two cultural officials Mohsen Javadi and Ayyoub Dehghankar for holding the 1st Tehran Virtual Book Fair (TVBF) successfully.
Mohsen Javadi, Deputy Culture Minister in Cultural Affairs and Ayyoub Dehghankar, CEO of Iran’s Book and Literature House Institute played key roles in organizing the first Iranian online book fair, which was held on January 20 to 29.
Earlier, the 33rd Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) was slated to be held in April 2020 with Turkey as the guest of honor but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event did not take place and later the 1st Tehran Virtual Book Fair was organized instead to meet the demands of the Iranian readership.
1,254,599 books were sold and earned over $2.7 million (640 billion rials) in the event. The Iranian publishers offered their book books at a 20% discount while foreign books were sold at a 50% discount. The books featured at the fair could be visited and purchased round the clock.
1732 domestic publishers registered to attend the event. Moreover, 180 foreign publishers presented 20000 books in the international section of the event.
142 cultural institutes and literary agents took part at the Right Center, 145 unveiling programs, 20 international and 25 local webinars were organized and 180 Iranian and foreign experts made speeches in these online meetings.
