IBNA- Iranian author Jamshid Khanian and illustrator Pejman Rahimizadeh were introduced by Iran’s Council of Children Books to run for Hans Christian Andersen Award 2022 in the related categories.
The nominees have been introduced by the council to the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), a non-profit organization which represents an international network of people from all over the world who are committed to bringing books and children together.
Jamshid Khanian is the acclaimed author of books such as ‘Babor's Beautiful Heart’ and ‘Edson Arants Donasimento and His Himalayan Rabbit’. His books have garnered several national and international awards and honors, including the IBBY Honorary Diploma, the White Crow (Munich International Library for Children and the Youth), as well as national awards, including the Children's Book Council Award.
He has also held many workshops and meetings on children's literature, storytelling and literary criticism in various cities of Iran and foreign countries, such as China and Germany.
Rahimizadeh, who has illustrated books such as ‘The Lovely Hero of Our Story’, ‘Mad and the Well’, ‘Arash’, “Rustam and Esfandiar” and many other bestsellers, was earlier shortlisted for the award in 2016. His works have been showcased in numerous Iranian and international exhibitions around the world.
The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children's books. Given every other year by IBBY, the Hans Christian Andersen Awards recognize lifelong achievement and are presented to an author and an illustrator whose complete works have made an important, lasting contribution to children's literature.
The Author's Award has been given since 1956 and the Illustrator's Award since 1966. The Award consists of a gold medal and a diploma, presented at a festive ceremony during the biennial IBBY Congress.
