IBNA- The first book of Persian poetry and Sufi mysticism masterpiece ‘Masnavi-e Ma’navi’ by Mowlana Jalal al-Din Balkhi (Rumi) has been published in Georgian.
According to IBNA correspondent, the book has been translated into Georgian by poet and orientalist Giorgi Lobzhanidze whose translation of the Holy Quran was granted a prize at the 15th Iran’s Book of the Year World Award held in 2008. The work has been released by Sulakauri Publishing in Tbilisi.
‘Masnavi-e Ma’navi’ is one of the most influential works of Sufism, commonly called "the Holy Quran in Persian” It has been viewed by many commentators as the greatest mystical poem in world literature.
‘Masnavi’ is a series of six books of poetry that together amount to around 25,000 verses or 50,000 lines. It is a spiritual text that teaches Sufis how to reach their goal of being truly in love with God.
Lobzhanidze is currently translating the second and third books of ‘Masnavi-e Ma’navi’ as well which is supposed to be published in cooperation with Iran’s Cultural Center in Georgia.
He has already translated ‘Gulestan’ (The Rose Garden) by Sa’di, one of the other masterpieces of Persian’s literature, in addition to ‘The Water’s Footsteps’ a great work of modern Persian poetry (She’r-e No) by Sohrab Sepehri.
